DES SMYTH DES SMYTH ENTERTAINER -EXCELLENT! Des Smyth was born in The Liberties in Dublin, his first public appearance was with the Catholic Boys Brigade Choir, he then formed his first group with his brothers Frank and Jimmy - The Smyth Brothers Their first broadcast was in 1955 on Radio Éireann Light Orchestra, conducted by Dermot O'Hara, from the Phoenix Hall in Dublin. They played The Theatre Royal, Us Air Force Bases in England and all the UK clubs, they also featured in the radio comedy series -Old Noises. In 1958/5 they seasoned in Butlins Mosney, Des stayed on as a Redcoat and later Des was known for a period as 'Des Smyth and The Collegemen' and went solo and stared on the Maureen Potter Show. He also featured on the With O'Hagen, Showcase, Steady as She Go-Gos, and regular appearances on The Late Late Show, Gales of Laughter, Dick Whittington,Bing Crosby tribute show, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Des wrote and sang the number one hit called 'Give Me Your Hand' With the revival of Swing and Rat Pack Music Des Smyth is enjoying his 50th year as an entertainer.
